“I want you too, Xiva,” he whispered. “And if you wait for me, I’ll come back to you. Remember, your scent is on me now. I belong to you, don’t I?” The words Jagger spoke to her resonated in Xiva’s mind even in her dreams. His deep yet calm voice, the easy way he gazed at her that made her heart race, she could see it so vividly as if he was right in front of her. She reached out and touched his face. With a teasing smile, he allowed his skin to ripple before turned to stone slightly under her touch. She felt herself blushing, smiling so damn hard at his charm.

The scent of blood ripped through the perfectness of her dream. Xiva’s eyes opened slowly. No longer was Jagger right in front of her, smiling that easy smile of his. Xiva jumped up from the large bed and inhaled deeply. Blood. She scrambled out of the bed in the bunker section of the clubhouse. Her first night staying in the clubhouse, Milly had brought her down to a suite-like room she said Jagger used all the time. True enough, the suite was embedded with Jagger’s scent. Xiva had taken her time, walking around the suite, taking in his scent. Milly told her that Jagger didn’t live here but he spent a lot of his time in this place. Just from being there, Xiva had more sense of who Jagger was. His desk with clubhouse information was neat and orderly and he kept files on every single person that sought refuge there, plus all the people that worked for him.

Although she should have felt close to him because she was staying in a place riddled with his scent, Xiva couldn’t help but feel sad too. Every day she’d hoped was the day that Jagger would come bounding into the suite, smiling charismatically and embracing her. Instead, she spent the entire month alone and living on a prayer of Jagger’s return.

On the main level of the bunker, Milly was hovering over a shifter who was bleeding profusely on the ground. Xiva rushed over, trying to help assess the situation. She grabbed a bucket of water and rags to help Milly.

“Damn witch attack,” he gritted, snapping his eyes shut. He had a hole in the middle of his stomach with a branch protruding through it. Typical witch attack.

“I’ve got to pull this thing out because if your body starts to heal with it inside, you’re in for trouble,” Milly stated, wrapping her hand around the branch. She yanked it out without preamble, pulling a scream from the male shifter.

“There, there, now you can start to heal,” Milly hushed him, running her hand across his forehead. Even in desperate times like this, Milly had kept a level head and cared deeply for everyone that crossed the threshold. It was officially war within Earthland, the beasts and shifters fighting for their lives against the witches. Every day, the clubhouse seemed to be drowned
